Friday at the Movies

Boredom on at home means walking down the street to the video store, where we get unlimited rentals for like $20 a month. So, because by this point the movies are free, I rented Constantine, The Brothers Grimm, and the first disc of Firefly. Also, TNT is doing football movies all weekend, so Remember the Titans was on at 8p.

Sat down to watch Constantine first. Keanu Reeves cannot act, but the special effects were awesome and the script surprisingly good, imho. I don't need to cut for spoilers, do I? Oh well, if you haven't seen, skip to the next paragraph. Anyway, I was surprised at how Constantine managed to be a compelling character, despite Reeves' utter inability to act. The supporting characters were all great, which I think helped, especially the way they portrayed Lucifer and Gabriel. The way Lu moved and spoke really had me convinced that he could have been the serpent in the Garden, and Gabe was delightfully insane. I think Tilda Swinton is my new favorite actor. The warning for "demonic imagery" in the rating had me giggling, but I can see why they did it; there was some seriously freak shit going on at times (melting demons = t3h 4w3s0m3). The plot even made sense, and some of the dialogue was pretty amusing, though I had to watch the film on subtitles because at times the sound was really uneven.

I do recommend Constantine, but I wonder how true it was to the comics. Anyone know?

Then I sat down and watched Remember the Titans, only to discover that I'd never seen the last half-hour or so. *facepalm* Bertier gets in a car accident?! *bursts into tears* I like that movie even better now, but I feel a little silly, raving about it for years and not having seen the end. I still love that movie.

In related news, saw two frightening ads while I was watching Law & Order between films. The first was for a movie called United 93, a fictional account of what happened on the fourth 9-11 flight. It's due out 28 April. Too soon, guys, too soon. The second ad was for LotR TT on TBS, and it was only scary because it was like it had been put together by Frodo/Sam shippers. Ick, hobbit!cest.

List of movies, etc I plan on seeing (feel free to let me know if I've forgotten anything):
~ Firefly
~ followed by Serenity, of course
~ Matrix: Reloaded and Matrix: Revolutions, so I know what you all have been bitching about
~ the other Blade movies, because I want a good laugh
~ Brokeback Mountain again, because I loves me some angst
~ other things I'm forgettting

Going to sit down and watch some Firefly now, methinks, and then write.

And where would I find the comic, m'dear? I'm not buying them.

Blade is...bizarre, to say the least. I'm not sure I liked the first one, but I feel a strange urge to see the rest.

Oh, and I just finished watching Firefly 1.01-1.03. Am liking this whole space cowboy thing.

And I trust Correll's opinions on Blade, specifically about vampires exploding. So I should go watch it.

You have a point there.

Good to know you spend your time as a loathsome coward commenting anonymously on people you can't have possibly cared to know in nearly a year of school. I'm sure you'll get ahead that way. Especially if you're too lazy to spell check a comment. There's intellectualism for you. God only knows how much you must sweat when it comes to writing an essay by hand. What's your major, I didn't know UMD was offering classes in Uncreative Bullshit.

You know what I think is a waste of life? People who decide to make statements on rumor and hearsay. You are a complete degenerate and a discredit to those of us who actually would like to learn something from our experiences. You don't deserve the slot you have at that college, you disgusting worm; give it to some poor community college kid who can't pay to go to a real college and start yourself a whiny blog on the internet instead of doing bits and pieces in the comments of other people's journals. Also, as a favor to the world, please get very drunk at a frat party and somehow - i don't care how creative you are about it - make sure you never, ever procreate. Please, the stupidity has to stop somewhere. Do it for the world.

The owner of this journal was not going to let me post this, because they are a better person than all of us, but I seize the right to defend my friend. You've got 500 miles of sheer fury on your head, sir/madam. So hold your tongue, she is NOT alone.

At least someone sees my reasoning here. Goodness.

You again? Jesus. Livejournals are meant for conversation and open dialogue, dear, not anonymous bitchy sniping.

(And, I might add, if you dislike her so much, why are you reading her blog? Get a life!)
