It lives!

Finally done. This is a mix CD that is kashmir_ki_kali's Friendship Stimulus gift. Will be uploading the actual tracks and a .zip of the complete mix over the next few hours: It's all up; have at it!

Stop the Progress, I Want to Get Off

1. "The Last Trip Home" - Battlefield Band
But progress runs its driven course
And tractors [have] replaced the horse

They've gone for better pay

3. "Men o' Worth" – Ed Miller
But when the work is o’re, and my boat rots on the shore
How will I feed my family when the companies move away?

4. "Smith & Taylor" – Chumbawamba

"Passengers will please refrain
This train's got the disappearing railroad blues."

'Cause I ain’t got no home in this world anymore

7. "The MTA" – Kingston Trio

"One more nickel."
Charlie couldn’t get off that train

8. "Cities" – Talking Heads
What do I smell? I smell home cooking
It's only the river, it's only the river

9. "What Have They Done to the Rain?" – Joan Baez
And the grass is gone, the boy disappears
And rain keeps falling like helpless tears
And what have they done to the rain?

10. "Where Do the Children Play?" – Cat Stevens
Well you've cracked the sky, scrapers fill the air
Will you keep on building higher
'Til there's no more room up there?

11. "Mercedes Benz" – Janis Joplin
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends

12. "57 Channels (And Nothin' On)" – Bruce Springsteen
We switched 'round and 'round 'til half-past dawn
There was fifty-seven channels and nothin' on

13. "Big Yellow Taxi" – Joni Mitchell
They took all the trees and put 'em in a tree museum
And then they charged all the people a dollar and a half to see 'em

14. "Pleasant Valley Sunday" – The Monkees
Rows of houses that are all the same
And no one seems to care

15. "The Great Unknown" – Dar Williams
And we looked out to see your enemies
And we see that you're looking all at us instead

16. "Won't Get Fooled Again" – Pete Townsend
I know that the hypnotized never lie
Do you?

17. "The Universal Soldier" – Buffy Sainte-Marie
And, brothers, can't you see?
This is not the way we put an end to war.

18. "Space Oddity" – David Bowie
Here am I floating 'round my tin can, far above the moon
Planet Earth is blue and there's nothing I can do

19. "Marathon" – Cast, Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris
So we keep on dancing, dancing
We can't rest

20. "A Place Called England" – June Tabor
Someone's sown a patch of sunflowers, though the soil is sooty black
Marigolds and a few tomatoes, right beside the railway track

For those of you that don't know, kashmir_ki_kali is currently working on an MA and PhD in archaeology, so I thought she's appreciate the theme. It was actually a lot of fun brainstorming for this, and I want to thank my folks and muck_a_luck for helping come up with songs, and starkravingsane and muck_a_luck for providing a few of the tracks I didn't have.

Theoretically, this should be one CD's length, but I think it's actually a bit over. If not limited by CD length, this disc would also include the following songs somewhere in the middle, some of which were cut because I could not find digital copies:

"Rocky Mountain High" - John Denver
"Traffic" - James Taylor
"Little Boxes" - Malvina Reynolds

I also only confined myself to one anti-war song, which I think is an accomplishment. If you happen to have any of these songs, don't hesitate to share!
