Cookies!

On a week's notice, Mum decided that we are indeed doing a yiddishe dinner for Yom Kippur. Luckily, I'm not on soup duty (chicken soup from scratch? really really gross to make), but I was tasked with baking something.

I wound up borrowing a recipe from an online friend, with some slight changes. One of them fell on the floor, so I've had a taste, and they're yummy. :D

Fia's Favorite Fudge Cookies
1 1/4 c. butter
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
3/4 c. cocoa
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350F. Cream butter and sugar in a large bowl. Add eggs and vanilla; blend well. Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt; blend into creamed mixture. Batter will be very thick. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop by teaspoonfuls on a cookie sheet; I will again praise the wonder that is parchment paper. Bake for 8-12 minutes; keep an eye on them so they don't over-bake. Cool on cookie sheet until set, about 1 minute. Remove to wire rack to cool.

Cookies will be soft. They will puff during baking, then flatten upon cooling. I wound up with exactly the expected 4 1/2 dozen, which is a marvel.

Oh, and for those of you who want pictures. I don't have any pretty dishes, so you get a shot of them cooling on the rack instead (stacked to make more space).

Now my whole house smells like chocolate...
