the fortnight in review

The snow is coming down so quickly, I don't even have words to describe it. If it were rain, I'd say coming down in buckets. Is this what it's like to live where they have real winters?

Anyway, I've been meaning to do a RL update for a while, so here it is:

Last week was a complete disaster. After being up and moving on Monday, even though I was thwarted at everything I tried to accomplish, I spent four days in the worst depression I've had since last winter. We realized pretty quickly that it was largely hormonal (that means another birth control pill out the window), but it was still pretty scary. It also meant that I missed the first week of classes, and I almost withdrew, for fear that I wouldn't be able to get things back together in time.

Was able to get it together again and go to classes on Monday, and things have been alright since then. I'm taking Intro to Sociology and Intro to Political Science, both with promising-looking professors. It's funny, though; both subjects are basically talking about the same things, but from slightly different angles.

I'm also taking Advanced Creative Writing, but that one was a struggle. You see, the course has two prerequisites: Intro to Creative Writing (or permission from the prof based on a writing sample) and English 101, or the equivalent. I got permission from the prof back in early January, and then settled in to fight with the English department about having them see my not-inconsequential AP scores as equivalent to EN101.

This would have been much easier, of course, had anyone in the English department picked up their phones. I didn't even have the opportunity to be turned down; I never even got called back. So, I showed up to the class on Tuesday, reminded the professor of who I was, and was told that a) the class was full and b) he couldn't register me without department approval, so I had to leave. So I went to the department, intending the cause a scene, and discovered that the head of the department was in her office. A few minutes of explanation later, and I was on my way back to the class, with a letter saying that there were spaces and that the department was fine with me registering (once my scores arrived, and they were already in the mail). Showed it to the prof, and he said OK. I'm still not formally registered yet, but I should be next week.

Assuming we're not snowed in until spring. *headdesk*

tl;dr: It was bad. It got better.

Though I may kill my parents if we get stuck in here too long. They drive me up the wall.
